Youths in Nasarawa State have called for establishment of a Youth Development Commission and a special fund as part of steps towards youth engagement in governance.
Youth groups under the aegis of Coalition of Nasarawa State Youths made the call during a peaceful rally in Lafia.
Presenting a Communiqué, State Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Mr Idris Ojoko said the Youth Development Commission which is to be established under law would serve as a template for youths to showcase their potential and be fully involved in governance.
Mr Ojoko also stressed the need for the State Government to continue to engage youths in decision making especially on critical issues affecting them.
The Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe who addressed the youths on behalf of Governor Abdullahi Sule commended them for conducting themselves peacefully to present their demands.
Dr. Emmanuel Akabe said the Government would support every genuine initiative by the youths aimed at moving the State forward.
