WED: AEPB Plants Trees To Protect Environment

As part of activities to mark this year’s World Environment Day, the Abuja Environmental Protection Board, AEPB, has planted trees in Chika Village in Abuja and presented seedlings to selected primary schools in the community.

On the occasion in Chika Abuja, the Director of AEPB, Doctor Hassan Abubakar said the move was part of measures to conserve and protect the environment in the Federal Capital Territory.

Doctor Hassan Abubakar who was represented by an Assistant Director in AEPB, Mrs Oluyemi Adenuga stated that the tree planting would also restore the ecosystem in view of the challenges of global warming.

The AEPB Director therefore stressed the need for residents of the FCT to always shun acts that could lead to environmental degredation and protect the environment at all times.

Doctor Hassan Abubakar explained that AEPB would continue to embark on programnes aimed at protecting and conserving the environment for national development.

In a remark, the Dakachi of Chika Village, Abuja, Istafanus Shegaje commended AEPB for choosing the community for the tree planting and the sensitization campaign on the protection of the environment.

He promised to enlighten his people on the importance of conserving and protecting the environment for a better society.

In a message, the President of Friends of the Environment, MrJoseph Audu called for more enlightenment campaigns on the conservation and protection of the environment.

While expressing concern on global warming, Mr Audu called for the support of relevant stakeholders on the restoration of the ecosystem in the country.

The event with the theme “Ecosystem Restoration” featured sensitization campaigns and debate by selected secondary schools in the FCT.
