The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says Five Hundred and Forty Two Thousand and Seventy Six Nigerians have completed the ongoing online registration since the exercise commenced two weeks ago.
INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated this in Abuja during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners in the Thirty Six states of the Federation and the FCT.
Professor Yakubu explained that Four Hundred and Fifty Six Thousand Nine Hundred and Nine were fresh registrations while Five Thousand Six Hundred and Sixty Deven applied for voter transfer, replacement of permanent voter cards, update of information records among others.
He noted that with over Six Thousand persons with disability who had indicated the type of disabilities, the Commission now has enough information to deploy assistive voting devices to polling units during elections.
Professor Yakubu said the Commission had configured and deployed machines nationwide for further training of officials in readiness for the physical registration scheduled to commence next week.
He assured Nigerians that INEC would spare no effort in deepening the use of technology to ensure transparency and credibility.
