The United Patriots ,UP, has condoled the families of the victims of Thursday’s terrorist attack, on convoy of the relocation Civilian Committee in Borno State.
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Chairman, Chukwudi Ezeobika
It explains that the attack is yet another reminder of the urgent need for the Nigerian Government to without further delay overhaul the Security architecture and infuse more resourceful and competent persons to curb insecurity in the Nation.
United Patriots (UP) notes that the act by the terrorists has direct impact on the fundamental rights of Nigerians to life, liberty and movement.
“The primary aim of these avoidable terrorist attacks being amongst other things, undermine and
destabilize the current civilian administration, jeopardize the existing peace and security, and threaten social and economic development in Borno State.
“We are not unaware of the negative effects that these terrorists activities could have on the rest of the Country if these necessary actions are not taken by the Nigerian Government.
It wishes to state that the Government has the primary responsibility and duty to protect the lives and secure the property of its citizens and this can only be achieved if positive measures are put in place to protect them against the threat of terrorists attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We once again condemn the amnesty programme being carried out by the Nigerian Government in favour of repentant Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists and we maintain that such an act by the Buhari led APC government goes against the letters and spirit of the Nigerian Constitution and has no moral justification whatsoever.
It calls for the proper funding of the Nigeria Police to prosecute arrested terrorists with the aim of bringing them to justice.
It will be recalled that United Patriots had on August 22, 2020, condemned in the strongest terms, the attack on the Convoy of the Executive Governor of Borno State and consequently demanded for a thorough investigation into the barbaric attacks by the Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.
