Transporter Pushes For Robust Transport System In FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has been urged to organise a stakeholders meeting with transport union leaders and taxi operators before the commencement of the proposed VIO Identication Number Scheme.

National Chairman, Painted Abuja Taxi Association, Alhaji Shehu Shugaba who gave the advice while speaking with news men in Abuja said previous initiatives were not successful because the FCT Transport Secretariat failed to carry stakeholders along.

Alhaji Shehu Shugaba advised the FCT Administration to stop the Operation of Unpainted and Unregistered Taxis to enhance the safety of residents.

He Commended the Federal Government for supporting Transport workers with a grant but called for more measures to increase the number of people to benefit from the scheme.

According to him, government should monitor and ensure that the grant gets to the hands of genuine transport workers.

The National Chairman reiterated the association’s readinness to contribute to initiatives that would enhance transportation in the six Area Councils.
