Stakeholders Advocate More Synergy For TB Prevention, Eradication

A Professor of Paediatrics, Lawan Umar has called for more collaboration to address emerging and existing issues on Tuberculosis.

He made the call at a news conference ahead of the twenty twenty one National Tuberculosis conference in Abuja.

Professor Umar who doubles as the chairman Scientific Committee on the TB conference, said it would create a platform for stakeholders to brain storm on emerging and existing issues on the prevention, treatment and eradication of the disease in Nigeria.

Professor Umar said stakeholders would focus on eight thematic areas ranging from community engagement to addressing tuberculosis issues as it relates to other diseases such as covid and HIV to fastrack addressing those health challenges in the country.

Also, the acting Board Chairman of the stop TB partnership, Dr. Ayodele Awe said the emergence of covid nineteen had created the need to formulate policies that would cater for unforseen diseases.

On his part, the Central Planning Committee Chairman of the conference Dr. Bertrand Odume who explained that the funding gap for TB was still seventy percent called for more synergy among multinational organizations to support government’s efforts in the fight against TB.

Dr. Oduma who also commended the media in their reportage and solicit for more collaboration to ensure the fight against TB was on the front burner.
