Senate To Receive 2021 Budget Estimates Next Week

President of Senate, Ahmad Lawan at plenary has said that the National Assembly will receive the 2021 budget proposals next week from the Executive arm of government.

Senator Lawan made the disclosure iin his welcome speech after the annual recess which lasted for over sixty days.
He said the presentation of the 2021 budget estimates was occasioned by the engagement of the Senate Joint Committee on Finance and National Planning with Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning on the 2020-2022 Medium Term Expenditure framework MTEF, and Fiscal Strategy Paper FSP during the recess.

Senator Lawan said the committees had interacted with over 300 Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) over issues of revenue generation and remittances to the Federal Government.

According to senator Lawan the Joint committee would soon present its report to the Senate.

He also revealed that the Senate had also received the draft of the new Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) from the executive.

Lawn said the annual recess, unlike the previous ones, was observed in the period of the COVID-19 Pandemic.
