Senate has called on the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission to investigate the Taraba State Police Commissioner over the alleged abuse of human rights of fourteen residents of Taraba State.

The call was sequel to a motion by the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha, representing Taraba south over the allegations of human right abuses of the 14 persons

Senator Bwacha explained that the fourteen persons had been in detention beyond what the constitution stipulated even without trial.

Contributing on the motion, Senators Abdullahi Sabi and Opeyemi Bamidele noted that illegal detentions and abuse of power were responsible for rejection of state Police by some notable Nigerians

In a remark, President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan emphasized the need for an investigation to ensure that those in police detention get justice.
