The Senate has renewed call to upgrade the Yaba college of Technology, Yaba, to a Federal University of Technology.
The call was part of deliberations at a public hearing on a Bill for an Act to provide for the establishment of the federal University of Technology, Yaba.
The bill was sponsored by Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan, representing Lagos West.
Senator Olamilekan explained that upgrading the institution would enhance more research that would be of great benefit to mankind.
The lawmaker further noted that if the polytechnic was upgraded to a University it would solve the challenges of those seeking admission into federal Universities in the country.
The president of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, represented by the deputy leader of the Senate, Ajayi Boriffice, stressed the need for institutions that could engender human capital development.
