A delegation from the National Assembly is currently in Kogi State for on the spot assessment of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex and Itakpe Iron ore as part of efforts to resuscitate the company.
The Delegation was led by the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi and Members, Senate Committee on Solid minerals, Mines, Steel Development and Metallurgy.
On a visit to the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello the Senate Leader said they were in the State for assessment towards complementing the resolve of the present administration in diversfying the economy through the steel and solid minerals sectors.
Governor Yahaya Bello, represented by his Deputy Edward Onoja expressed optimism that the resuscitation of the company would create wealth and job opportunities for Nigerians.
Speaking, the Minister of Mines and Steel Development Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite said, Russian technocrats were to visit the country in March to audit the complex but it was not possible due to the COVID19 pandemic .
Hope of resuscitating the company was reawakened last year after President Muhammadu Buhari’s participation at the Russia- Africa Summit in Sochi, Russia, where a bilateral agreement was entered into with President Vladimir Putin of Russia.
