Nasarawa State Government says it has set up a mechanism to tackle cases of open defecation in the State.
The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Musa Ibrahim stated this while briefing newsmen after the monthly environmental sanitation in Lafia.
Mr. Musa Ibrahim said the State Government had opened up more environmental sanitation enforcement structures that would not only focus on cleaning of surroundings and silting of drains but ensuring that all households have toilet facilities.
The Commissioner pointed out that the Government had provided land at Ungwan Rere village in Lafia Local Government Area for establishment of a Federal Government Waste Recycling Plant.
Mr. Musa Ibrahim however noted that since the re – introduction of the monthly environmental sanitation one year ago, cases of outbreak of diseases especially Lassa fever, Corona virus and malaria in the State had reduced.
Chief Environmental Officer in the State, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar stated that 40 people were arrested while over 37 vehicles were impounded for flouting the environmental sanitation laws in the State.
Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar added that defaulters would be prosecuted at the State Environmental sanitation Mobile Court.
