Residents of Gwagwalada Area Council have called on the Federal Government to expedite the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Lokoja expressway to ensure free flow of traffic in the area.
They made the call in an interview with Kapital FM following a heavy gridlock along the expressway for over twenty four hours.
The residents who explained that the rehabilitation of the road has been ongoing for over three months lamented that it had caused regular traffic congestion and disrupted economic activities within Dagiri and Kuje road axis.
A commuter Mr Anthony Uchendu said the heavy traffic stretched from Gwako in Gwagwalada Area Council to Bako in Kwali Area Council.
A trader along the road, Mr Suleiman Musa explained that the rift between the drug law enforcement agents and truck drivers in the early hours of yesterday also contributed to the heavy traffic.
Mr Suleiman Musa who appealed to government to put adequate measures in place to complete the work within the shortest period stressed that the road was very crucial to the socio-economic development of the people due to its role in linking the Northern and Southern parts of the country together.
