The House of Representatives is to conduct a comprehensive audit of funds spent on the rehabilitation and maintenance of refineries in the country.
This is the resolution of a motion sponsored under matters of urgent national importance by onofiok Luke from Akwa Ibom State at plenary.
Leading the debate, the lawmaker expressed concern that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation NNPC had allegedly spent about Twenty- Five Billion Dollars for turn around maintenance of refineries in the last Twenty-Five years.
He added that the NNPC, 2014-2018 Audit Report also indicated that the Nation’s four Refineries had recorded over One point six Trillion naira cummulative losses within the period.
Mr Luke noted that the audit when conducted by the house would give room for effective use of the refineries and encourage the prudent management of public funds in line with the Legislative Agenda of the 9th National Assembly.
Adopting the motion, the House also urged the executive arm of government to grant licences and provide incentives for the building and construction of Modular Refineries in the country.
