The House of Representatives has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately declare a state of emergency on the security situation in the country.
This is one of the resolutions reached by the House after a closed door session that lasted over four hours.
The Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila who announced the resolutions after the meeting said the decisions were taken following the high spate of insecurity in the country.
The House also summoned the National Security Adviser and Service Chiefs to brief the legislature on the security situation in the country.
On his part the Deputy Minority Leader Tobi Okechukwu while calling for a comprehensive audit of the nation’s armoury and staff strength of security agencies, stressed the need for all hands to be on deck in the fight against insecurity.
The House also resolved to organize a security summit to harness all possible means to tackle the menace of insecurity.
