The Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has called on African leaders to harness the resources in the continent to solve their challenges.
He made the call in a message to the inauguration of CoDA Independent Task Team on the Development of Vaccines and Equitable Universal Access to Essential Vaccines and Vaccination in Africa at Okada, Edo State.
Represented by former Special representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Central Africa Abdoulaye Bathily, former president Obasanjo who is the Chairman of the Coalition for Dialogue on Africa,CoDA Board of Directors noted that Africa’s major challenge is not lack of resources but the inability to utilise the resources to develop the continent.
He emphasized the need for more partnership from the public and private sectors to achieve the initiative of continental production of Vaccines and other needs.
In a remark, the Deputy Chairperson of Africa Union Commission, Monique Nsanzabaganwa who noted that the private sector was mostly impacted by covid-19 urged the private sector to make useful investment in Vaccines production.
The Governor of Edo state Godwin Obaseki while decrying the lack of interest especially by international bodies to produce Vaccines for HIV and malaria, advised CoDA to strengthen primary healthcare in the continent.
The Minister who joined virtually solicited the support of the CoDA independent Task Team to enable Nigeria join in Vaccines production.
While Inaugurating the Task Team, former Governor of Edo State Chief Lucky Igbenidion whose University is partnering CoDA, pledged to commit resources for actualization of the project.
