President Muhammadu Buhari has Reaffirmed the commitment of his Administration in Reviving the Nigerian Railway aimed at Reducing deficiency in the Transportation Sector.
The President Stated this during the Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Kaduna – Kano Rail line ,held At Zawachiki, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area of Kano state.
President Buhari said commencement of construction activities on the segment of the Lagos – Kano vividly represents the commitment of his Administration in the revival of the Nigerian Railway system, with the aim of reducing the deficiency in the transportation infrastructure and drive effective and more efficient transportation of passengers and freight within the country.
He explained that the revival of the Country’s rail line would Enhance the economic development of the Nation and create more job opportunities.
President Buhari noted that his Administration was giving much priority in the rail sector geared towards improving the Economic well being of the country.
He maitained that the railway connection when completed would establish the ports in Lagos, as the choice for import and export business of the people of landlocked Niger Republic,saying it would positively drive the economy through employment from new business opportunities and wealth creation.
In a remark, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State Aplauded the foresight of the federal government in reviving the Rail Sector.
He said the execution of Such projects was Clear indication of the federal governments Commitment in promoting Commerce,and creating more Job opportunities.
Earlier the minister of transportation Rotimi Amechi said the scope of the railway project involves a 203km double track standard gauge railway from Kano to Kaduna. The railway along this route traverses the major cities of Kaduna, Zaria and Kano with three (3) railway stations both for passenger and freight services at Rigachukun, Zaria and Kano with varying capacities and categories.
The ceremony was attended by governor’s ,ministers and other stakeholders.
