The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commitssion, PLASIEC says it has began preparations for conduct of Local Government Elections in the State scheduled for October this year.
PLASIEC Chairman, Mr. Fabian Ntum, who stated this while briefing journalists in Jos said the election is in conjunction with the inter party advisory council.
He maintained that the choice of the month of October was to avoid any lacuna at the local government level, because the three year tenure of the current local government chairmen would elapse in the next five months.
Mr. Ntum explained that the election would be conducted in the 17 local Government Areas of the State including Barkin-ladi, Jos south, Jos north and Riyom where the last elections could not hold because of security reports and caretaker committees were appointed.
Mr Ntum assured political parties of a free and fair election, maintaining that PLASIEC would not be partisan as the timetable would be released tomorrow.
