PLATEAU :Judicial Pannel Of Inquiry To Stop Salary of Security Personnel Who Fail To Appear Before It

The Judicial Panel of Inquiry into police brutality and other related extra judicial killings sitting in Plateau State has ordered
the stoppage of remuneration of security personnel who refused to appear before the panel for investigation.

The Chairman of the panel, Justice Philomena Lot, gave the order at the second sitting of the panel at the Azi Nyako Dadinkowa Youth Center, Jos.

She gave the order when counsel to the Commissioner of Police Plateau State Command, Muleng Alex in a petition against CSP Yusuf DogonYaro promised to check if the name of the accused personnel exist on the police pay roll.

The chairman of the panel who was not comfortable with the response of the counsel, ordered that he must produce the said officer whether still in service or retired.

In another petition which involved the Nigeria army, the panel set another date to enable counsel to the petitioner, Joshua Andrew study terms of reference of the panel.

Justice Lot said counsels must be convinced if it has Jurisdiction to entertain petition against the army.

Earlier, Counsel to the Panel N.D Deleng had submitted that the panel under it terms of reference has the powers to entertain matters instituted against the army and not limited to the Nigeria Police Force.

The Chairman also ordered that the Nigeria Army be served and summoned before it on the next adjourned date, which is 7th of December 2020.
