The Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Arlat Dashei has stressed the need to evolve a Post pandemic strategy towards ensuring business activities resume fully .
Mr Dashei, who stated this to newsmen in Jos while presenting the 2nd and 3rd quarter reports.
of the Service said strategies must be evolved to ensure that revenues are harnessed and collected from the little activities going on amidst the pandemic to keep the wheels of Government turning to meet the needs of the people.
He said the Service generated 16.446 billion naira from its target of 15. 19 billion naira, thereby surpassing the target by over 500 million naira.
He said they had deployed some strategies to include Intensified Tax assessment, aggressive tax audit and investigation, aggressive tax payer education and sensitization and sustained engagements with the Plateau Business Community, Trade Unions and Associations among others.
Mr Dashei said the COVID 19 Pandemic was affecting the world in various ways and has resulted in unforseen and devastating health and economic consequences.
He said with the unprecedented drop of crude oil prices that resulted in the drop in statutory allocation to the State, taxation and other charging fees for services have become a ready- made alternative source or revenue.
This according to him has become a challenge with the attendant lock-downs and semi lock-downs across the state and Country thereby stifling economic activities in an effort to keep citizens safe from the dreaded COVID 19 Pandemic.
