The Federal Government has been called upon to establish a special anti counter terrorism unit to fight insurgency in the Country.
The immediate past Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang stated this in jos.
He said the Nigerian Army does not have the training to handle the challenges of insecurity, hence the need to create a unit.
He called for the training and equipping of the Nation’s security agencies to effectively fight insurgency as well as establishment of State Police to reduce pressure from the Federal Police.
Jang said as a retired military officer, the appointment of service Chiefs was the prerogative of the President, but they should not be in office beyond the stipulated period.
While calling for a new constitution that will be accepted by all, Jang stressed the need for true Federalism where power would be shared within a Federating unit.
The former Governor noted that the major challenge facing Political Parties in the Country is lack of Internal Democracy.
He said he does not believe in rotational presidency but if it should be practiced, then the middle belt region should be included.
The Former Governor said the country’s Democracy can only succeed if the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Country’s Judiciary maintain their independence.
