Persons With Disability Want Compliance With 5 Percent Provision In Govt Recruitments

The Association of Applicants and Workers with Disability in Nigeria wants the Federal Character Commission to issue a circular mandating Ministries, Departments and Agencies to comply with the five percent provision for persons with Disability in recruitment exercises.

The National President of the Association, Dr Godstime Onyegbunam made the call during a peaceful protest to the headquarters of the Federal Character Commission in Abuja.

Dr Godstime who decried the neglect and discrimination of persons with Disability appealed to the Commission to compel all government organisations to comply with the provisions of the Act to give them a sense of belonging.

In a response, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Dr Farida Dankaka who was represented by the Secretary, to the Commission, Alhaji Mohammed Tukur explained that the Commission had issued a directive for full compliance with the provisions.

The Chairman also advised the Association to harmonize all related associations of persons with Disability to achieve their goals.
