The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has advised Electoral Officers in Ondo State to ensure that their integrity is not compromised in the forthcoming Governorship election.
Prof Yakubu who gave the warning during a meeting with Local Government Electoral Officers in Akure reiterated the commission’s confidence in their capacity to deliver free and fair election in the State .
While urging them to work as a team, Prof Yakubu explained that from previous experience, some officers assume they could do everything alone.
According to him, such attitude will result to lapses on the election day with nobody to hold responsible.
The chairman also warned them not replace ad hoc staff that would be used for the Oct. 10 election.
He explained that each of the ad hoc staff would get a letter of appointment which contains their responsibilities, remunerations, the mode of payment, as well as the procedure for lodging complaints.
The Chairman also stressed the need for activation of Registration Area Centres before the deployment of ad hoc staff and materials, as well as proper management of polling units in line with COVID19 protocols
