The Federal Government has been urged to consider ranching as possible solutions to farmers/herders crisis in the country.
National Coordinator, Zero Hunger Farmers Association, Doctor Tunde Arosanyin made the call at the conferment of an award on him by Okun Media Link at the Press Center in Lokoja.
Doctor Arosanyin said the persistent farmers/herders clashes is uncalled for hence the need for ranching to address the menace.
According to him, ranching would provide opportunities for herders to get the best out of their livestock as well as safety for the crops planted by farmers.
He appreciated the association for recognising his modest contributions to agriculture nationwide.
In a message to the occasion, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Momoh Jimoh Adeiza described Doctor Arosanyin as a patriotic Nigerian whose services have been a blessing to humanity.
In their separate remarks, a former Director of the National Inland Waterways, Doctor Femi Ajisafe and Executive Director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, Comrade Idris Miliki charged journalists in the country to demand accountability from their elected representatives at all levels.
He said this became imperative in view of the mismanagement of resources by some political office holders and lack of transparency in governance.
In his address, the chairman of the Forum, Prince Friday Ogungbemi said the award was in recognition of Doctor Tunde Arosanyin’s Contribution to the agricultural sector.
Highlights of the occassion was the conferment of the Okun man of the year on Doctor Arosanyin.
