NMDC Solicits More Funding For Technological Advancement

The Director General, National Metallurgical Development Centre, NMDC, Professor Linus Asuquo has advocated adequate funding of the centre for Technological advancement of the Country.

Professor Asuquo made the call when the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Plateau State Sector Command, Mr. Akporowho Isaac visited him in his office in Jos.

He called for the funding of research work to enable researchers carry out studies that would boost the nation’s economy.

Prof. Asuquo said that for any Country to make a breakthrough in Research and Development , capacity building is indispensable.

He expressed regret on the huge amount of money many Countries in the world today spend on infrastructure without commiserable man power to protect the infrastructure.

He explained that the National Metallurgical Development Centre, (NMDC) was established in 1973 as a testing laboratory but has over time metamorphosed to be among the only three Research Agencies with Metallurgical and Mineral Processing Plants in Africa.

Prof Asuquo added that despite being a research Agency under the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, the Agency trains not only Engineers but other professionals in the Centre who contribute one way or the other to ensure that the centre realizes its mission and vision for the benefit of Nigeria and the world at large.

” I met NMDC two years ago when i assumed leadership of the Centre almost like a ruin but with the unwavering cooperation of the Governing Board, Staff and Management the center has been transformed to a level that Government can be proud of.”

The FRSC Sector Commander,, Mr. Akporowho Isaac on his part explained that he was at the center to consolidate on existing relationship between both organizations upon assumption of office.

The Sector Commander promised to ensure free flow of traffic around the location of the NMDC.
