The Director-General of the Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NiMet, says in the next three days Moderate to Heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Osun, Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Imo, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Enugu states
A statement signed by Professor Matazu in Abuja says other states that will also experience Moderate to Heavy rainfall are Kogi, Benue, Taraba, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Nasarawa, Adamawa, southern part of Borno, Anambra and Ebonyi State.
The statement however adds that light rains are expected over the rest of the country.
It stresses that as a result of the expected moderate to heavy rainfall, there are slim chances of flash flood events on roads, settlements, farmlands and bridges.
According to Professor Matazu there are also chances of slippery roads, leading to reduced travel time, with increased likelihood of cars skidding off the road
and chances of crashes.
“Strong winds are also expected to accompany the storms, which can pull
down unsecured objects and weak structures” Matazu added.
It therefore advises the public to be prepared for these events to avoid damages from rain-related hazards and watch out for updates adding that no hydrometeorological hazards are anticipated.
