The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari on the appointment of new service Chiefs to strengthen the fight against insecurity and other criminal activities in the country.

In a statement signed by the National President
Ladi Bala, NAWOJ expresses hope that the Service Chiefs would overhaul the nation’s security architecture and help safeguard lives and property of Nigerians.

It stresses the need for the Federal Government to provide the necessary logistics, weaponry and enhance the welfare of personnel to boost their morale in efforts towards the fight against insurgency, banditry, kidnappings and other criminal activities.

The statement also calls on the new Service Chiefs to come up with new strategies in contending with the security challenges threatening the peace of the nation.

” it is sad and unhealthy to note that at the center of all the security crisis bedeviling Nigeria, women are the worse hit, a situation that requires urgent attention as no nation can develop when the destiny of more than half of its population made up of women and children is under severe threat”

It therefore calls on the Service Chiefs to meet the expectations of Nigerians by living up to their assigned responsibilities.

“The new service chiefs need not be reminded that their appointments came on the heel of unacceptable spike in criminal activities particularly insurgency, banditry and kidnappings across the country.”

The statement however commends the contributions of the immediate past chiefs who put in their best to keep the country from total collapse and wishes them a peaceful retirement life after years of meritorious service to the country.

It equally appeals to Nigerians to cooperate and give necessary support to the new Service Chiefs and other security agencies towards winning the war against insecurity in the country.
