NGO Donates Anti-Poaching Patrol Equipment To NPS

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Africa Nature Investors, ANI has donated firearms, uniforms and anti-poaching patrol equipment amongst others to the National Park Service.

Receiving the items in Abuja the Minister of Environment, Doctor Mahmmud Abubakar said the equipment were donated for the protection and development of the Gashaka Gumti National Park.

Gashaka Gumti National Park is the nation’s largest park located in Taraba and Adamawa State with wild life such as monkeys, pangolins and leopards.

The Minister commended the African Nature Investors for the gesture and partnership with the National Park Service in conserving wild life in Gashaka Gumti National Park since twenty seventeen.

Doctor Mahmood Abubakar who called for more collaboration between the ministry of environment and Non-governmental organisations said the role of public -private partnership in conserving wild life cannot be overemphasized.

The Conservator General National Park Service, Mr Ibrahim Goni expressed optimism that with more support from stakeholders it would develop the Park and boost tourism in the country.

The Director Africa Nature Investors, Mr Philip Ihenacho said one of the reasons the foundation focuses on Gashaka Gumti National Park is due to its importance to the Benue River which over ten million Nigerians depend on for livelihood.

Mr Ihenacho added that the Park is one of the most important parks in the world .
