The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA, is to establish a Special Economic Zones Training Institute in Kano State.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEPZA, Prof Adesoji Adesugba made by this known while speaking with newsmen in Abuja.
Prof Adesoji Adesugba who said the Institute would take off from next year stated that the move was to provide professional training that would boost the productivity of NEPZA staff and other stakeholders towards encouraging the growth of Special Economic Zones in
According to him, the Authority will collaborate with the International Finance Corporation, African Special Economic Zones Association and World Free Zones Association among others in the provision of technical training and support for the smooth operations of the Institute.
Prof Adesoji Adesugba said the Institute which would be the first of its kind in Africa would be operated according to international best practices.
The Managing Director of NEPZA explained that the Institute would not only be beneficial to Nigeria but also Africa and ECOWAS region.
Prof Adesoji Adesugba pointed that the project would equally lead to job creation, poverty reduction and youth empowerment in the country.
While describing the Special Economic Zones as key to economic development, the Managing Director said NEPZA would continue to be embark on projects aimed at adding value to the growth of the nation’s Growth Domestic Products, GDP and economic diversification.
He solicited the support of stakeholders towards developing the sector and realizing the developmental objectives of NEPZA.
Prof Adesoji Adesugba commended the support of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo towards realizing the mandate of NEPZA.
