The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority, NEPZA is to establish a Special Economic Zone in Katsina State.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NEPZA, Prof. Adesoji Adesugba made this known when the District Head of Kankara, Katsina State, Alhaji Usman Bello visited him in Abuja.
Prof. Adesugba who said the Special Economic Zone would be located in Funtua stated that the Zone would deal mainly on the production of textiles.
According to him, the move will reduce the import of foreign textile materials to Nigeria.
He explained that Nigeria spent billions of naira on the importation of textiles.
Prof. Adesugba said NEPZA was in the forefront of developing the industrial base of the country through the establishment of Special Economic Zones across the country.
The NEPZA Boss explained that the move would lead to the creation of one million direct and indirect jobs and take Nigerian unemployed youths off the streets.
While commending the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari towards infrastructural development of the country, Prof. Adesugba added that NEPZA would continue to compliment the President’s efforts aimed at ensuring economic and industrialisation of Nigeria.
Earlier, the District Head of Kankara, Katsina State, Alhaji Usman Bello lauded the policies of Prof. Adesugba towards repositioning NEPZA for optimal performance in the areas of Free and Special Economic Zones across the country.
Alhaji Bello who recollected his working days in Nigeria Customs Service, alongside Prof. Adesugba expressed confidence in his ability to deliver effective service as the MD/CEO of NEPZA.
