The Nigeria Customs Service, Strike Force Team, Zone B says it impounded Contraband items Worth 786,911,648 in the last three Months in kano and Jigawa.
The Strike Force Coordinator, Oseni Olorukoba stated this while displaying the seized items to journalists in Kano.
He explained that the contraband items seized, includes exotic vehicles, re-bagged par-boiled long grain rice, vegetable oil, Second Hand Clothes and foreign tomatoes.
The Strike Force Coordinator explained that operatives of the service impounded a black Mercedes Benz Jeep 2021 model, disguised with a Diplomatic plate number to beat Customs, but failed and were aprehended by the officials .
“There is no hiding place for smugglers, whose stock in trade is to deprive the Federal Government of the expected revenue from imported items”
He noted that the street value of the seized Black Mercedes Benz Jeep, 2021 model, was 63 million Naira.
“If he had not been caught, he would have deprived Nigeria of the payment of 35 per cent Customs duty.”
”Now that the driver who drove the vehicle has been caught, the real owner will not only forfeit the Vehicle to the Federal Government, but would be prosecuted at the end of investigations”
He maintained that even though the owner of the Mercedes Benz was at large his personnel were working Asidiously in ensuring that the culprit is arrested and prosecuted.
The Strike Force Coordinator said other contraband items impounded, include, 410 cartons of foreign Macroni, 294 bales of second hand clothes, 307 cartons of foreign shoes and 527 cartons of foreign soap.
He added that the Nigeria Customs service would not relent in going after Smugglers, saying they have no hiding place in the zone.
