The National Task Force on illegal importation of arms, ammunitions light and chemical weapons says it has strengthened its surveillance towards checking the activities of bandits and other security threats in the Northern part of the Country.
The acting Director General of the Task Force, Mallam Musa Mohammed stated this during an emergency meeting of the organisation in Abuja.
Mallam Musa who expressed concern over the current security situation in the Country said the force had mobilised and deployed adequate personnel to complement other security agencies to address the menace.
While calling on Nigerians to support security agencies with useful information to put an end to the ugly situation, Mallam Musa Mohammed said the force through its intelligence gathering had razed some hide outs in Katsina State and handed those arrested to security agencies for necessary action.
Mallam Musa however appealed to the National Assembly to expedite action on the bill which has passed second reading seeking for the establishment of a commission on illegal importation of arms to strengthen operations of the task force across the Country.
The acting Director General stressed the need for youths to shun acts that could hamper peace and national development.
