Nasarawa State Government has strengthened the capacity of the committee set up by the State Government to ensure full enforcement of the Presidential Directive to End Open Defecation by 2025.

The State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Musa Ibrahim stated this at a news briefing after monitoring the monthly environmental sanitation in Lafia.

According to the Commissioner, so far, the operation of the enforcement committee was yeilding the desired results as most of the new residential and public buildings were complying to the directive of providing toilet facilities.

Mr Ibrahim further stated that the State Government had set up a machinery to commence house to house inspection across all the thirteen Local Government Areas of the state to ensure every household has toilet facilities.

The Commissioner, however, expressed displeasure over the attitude of some residents of the state who still indulged in defecating openly noting that the state government would be left with no other option than to take punitive measures to check prevalence of the practice.
