Nasarawa State Government says it will support the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, agricultural initiative to ensure food sufficiency across the state.
The State Deputy Governor, Doctor Emmanuel Akabe stated this at the inauguration of sixteen hectares of land donated to the NYSC in Doma Local Government Area of the state.
Doctor Akabe said, Governor Abdullahi Sule was committed to agriculture hence the support for the the initiative.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources, Professor Allahnana Otaki, Doctor Akabe appreciated the Royal father for donating the farmland to the NYSC to boost agricultural activities in the state and the country at large.
The Andoma of Doma, Ahmadu Aliyu Oga said, he donated the sixteen hectare farmland to the NYSC to promote national unity among corps members in the state.
The royal father therefore called on the corps members to shun ethno-religious sentiments and channel their energy and creativity towards food security across the country.
Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Brigadier- General Shuabu Ibrahim explained that in twenty twelve the scheme introduced a skill acquisition and entrepreneurship training to prepare corps members towards being self-employed after the service year.
While thanking the Andoma of Doma for his selfless donation, the Director-General appealed to government at all levels to support the NYSC agricultural initiative to complement the Federal Government’s policy on agriculture.
State co-ordinate of the scheme, Mr Stephen Gabrial Dewan, announced that farming activities would begin on the farmland with planting of beniseed and melon among others.
