NASS To Support INEC To Create More Polling Units

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan says the National Assembly will provide necessary Legislative support to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC for provision of better polling units for Nigerians.

He stated this at the National Assembly Joint committee meeting on INEC, with the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission,Prof Yakubu Mahmoud, on Voters access to Polling Units.

Senator Lawan Explained that providing more secured and convenient polling units for Nigerians would enable them exercise their franchise.

Senator Lawan therefore urged INEC to go beyond providing polling units for communities requesting for new polls, by ensuring fair and equitable distribution of the polling units.

In a presentation the Chairman of INEC, Prof, Yakubu Mahmoud said the request to have new polling units was sequel to demands by Nigerians to enable them discharge their civic responsibility.

He said the Commission had over nine thousand requests from Individuals and communities to establish more Polling units

Professor Mahmoud emphasized that the new polling units would address the problems of over crowding and electoral violence during elections in the country….
