The National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC says it has destroyed illicit and counterfeit drugs worth over 3 billion Naira in Kano State in the last two years.
NAFDAC Coordinator in Kano, Alhaji Shaba Mohammad stated this while briefing journalists in Kano.
He said the products were seized during various joint operations by the agency and other stakeholders in the State .
Shaba Mohammad noted that the agency had recorded significant successes in the campaign against drug abuse that had been bedeviling the State in the past 10 years.
The coordinator maintained that for the first time in 10 years the State moved down to number six on the list of States with high rate of Drug abuse nationwide
Mr Mohammed said the success was achieved as a result of collaboration with other stakeholders and security agencies.
The coordinator said NAFDAC was working closely with the National drugs law enforcement agency which had yielded positive results in achieving the set objectives.
He explained that NAFDAC in collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Drug Abuse Club, NGOs and NDLEA went to the grassroots to enlighten primary and secondary schools students of the dangers associated with drug abuse .
