Military Personnel Assault A Teacher In Jos

Students of Government Secondary School Kufang, in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State have staged a protest over alleged assault on one of their teachers by personnel of the Nigeria Army within the school premises.

It was gathered that the armed military personnel stormed the school in their van accompanied by a mother of an SS 2 student who was said to have been disciplined by the assaulted teacher.

The Students who were already set for the day’s classes came out in their numbers , shouting and chanting songs of solidarity in defense of their Economics teacher, Mr. Solomon Moka who was being assaulted by a group of military officers .

Narrating the incident, two students of the School, Meshak Garba and Timothy Walapo said the military personnel drove into the school without inquiries of what transpired, attacked the teacher and attempted to drag him into the van which prompted them to engage the security officials.

The Vice Principal Academics Mrs. Helen Gwongs explained that the teacher had earlier slapped the student Joel Pwajok for trying to abscond from the class and unruly behavior.

Mrs Gwongs further stated that, two other students were injured during the protest but had received first aid treatment at the school.

Reacting, the State Commissioner for Secondary Education Mrs. Elizabeth Wapmuk who was represented by the Deputy Director School Activities, Mr. Kangrusa Nuwana appealed to the students to remain calm stating that proper investigation on the matter would be carried out.

As at the time of filing in this report, efforts to contact the Public Relations Officer of the 3 armoured Division , Nigeria Army proved abortive .
