A medical Expert has advocated the inclusion of cancer preventive measures as part of the national routine immunization in Nigeria.
An Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr. Taiwo Oladiran made the call at an awareness campaign to mark the Baptist Health Week in Keffi Nasarawa State.
The awareness campaign is an annual event of the Baptist Health Fellowship to educate Nigerians on topical health challenges leading to high rate of mortality in the country.
The guest speaker,
Dr. Taiwo Oladiran who explained the symptoms, prevention and cure of cervical cancer, said most patients do not show up for treatment until its was full blown.
He said if screening centres were available in health facilities it aid early detection of the disease which would go a long way in saving lives.
Dr. Oladiran stressed the need for government to sort for necessary collaboration to fastrack availability of the vaccines in Nigeria.
Also, a surgeon Dr. Emmanuel Adeleke who spoke on breast cancer, advised Nigerians to always seek for medical attention once they notice symptoms for prompt intervention.
In a remark, the Chairman, Baptist Health Fellowship, First Baptist Church Keffi Chapter, Dr. Bode Amao said the choice of the topic was based on the fact that the disease was one of the leading causes of death especially among women globally.
The theme for this year’s Baptist Health Week is “Women Health: Awareness of breast and cervical cancer.
