A Legal Practitioner and Human Rights Activist, Barrister Maxwell Opara has called for more enlightenment campaign that will guard against human rights abuses in the country.
Barrister Maxwell Opara made the call in Abuja while speaking with newsmen on his book publication titled “Understanding of the Procedural Application of The Fundamental Rights.
The Legal Practitioner who expressed concern over various abuses of human rights in the country most especially in rural areas identified lack of enlightenment campaign as one of the problems responsible .
According to him, most Nigerians are not adequately informed about their rights and ways of seeking justice whenever their rights are violated.
He therefore stressed the need for Government at all levels to create an enabling environment that would guard against human rights abuses and ensure justice and good governance in the country.
Barrister Maxwell Opara also called on National Human Rights Commission and other relevant government’s agencies and stakeholders to redouble their enlightenment campaign on human rights to ensure a just and better society.
The Legal Practitioner emphasized the need for regular training and retraining of the Police, DSS and other security agencies on issues of human rights to reduce cases of abuse of rights of Nigerians.
While advising Nigerians to always protect their rights, Barrister Maxwell Opara enjoined legal practitioners to develop keen interest in offering free legal services to the poor whose rights are been violated in the country.
