Leadership Tussle : FCTA Tasks Community Leaders On Peace

The Federal Capital Territory Area Council Service Secretariat, ACSS, has called on community leaders across the six Area Councils to embrace peace and educate their followers to shun actions inimical to National peace and Unity.

Acting Secretary of ACSS, Mrs. Omolola Olanipekun, gave the advice in Abuja while speaking with Journalists on the significance of peace to nation building in Abuja.

The Acting Secretary who warned all those contesting for Chieftaincy positions to adhere to the rules guiding the contest, pointed out that grassroot development could only be achieved in an atmosphere of Peace and unity.

She further stated that the Secretariat had helped resolve communal disputes between Miyetti Allah and Chief of Pyetti in Kwali Area Council, and the timely intervention in the dispute between herders and farmers in the FCT to foster sustainable peace.

Mrs Olanipekun therefore maintained that Government had made frantic efforts to attain the current level of peace being enjoyed in the Territory and would not allow any individual or group to jeopardize it.

According to Olanipekun, a sensitization campaign had been organised regularly across the 62 Wards within the Area Councils with a view to facilitating synergy with all relevant stakeholders. 

She noted that some of  the communal disputes the Secretariat had resolved include problems between Miyetti Allah and Chief of Petti in Kwali Area Council, and tussle over  leadership of District Head between Laura Royal Family in Abaji Area Council and Kopati Royal family in Niger State “.

Others are, ” settlement of District Head stools among contending camps in Gaube Community in Kuje Area Council, resolution of disagreement between the youths of Gbaygi community and Ebira people in Peyi, Bwari Area Council “.
