Lawmakers Describe Riyom Killings As Setback To Peaceful Co- existence

Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Defence and Senator representing Plateau North, Istifanus Gyang
says the recent killings in Wereng Village of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State was a set back to the peaceful coexistence in the State.

Senator Gyang in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Protocol, Musa Ashoms said the elimination of targeted traditional rulers in Plateau by bandits is worrisome and must stop.

He said the Sustained attacks and killings of thousands of people is what communities in Plateau North have been subjected to for over 2 decades particularly in Riyom and Barkin Ladi LGAs and later, Miango axis of Bassa LGA.

He lamented that the Nigeria Government has turned a blind eye to the citizens in the face of barbaric killings.

Meanwhile,the Member representing Barkin-Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Simon Mwadkwon in a separate statement issued by his Director of Media and Publicity, Friday Bako described the killings as barbaric and unfortunate.

He decried the renewed hostilities and called on Government at all levels and security agencies to rise up to their constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property of the citizenry.

He called for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators to ensure justice for the victims.
