Government at all levels have been urged to evolve measures towards the elimination of violence against women in the country.
This is the resolution of a motion sponsored by the Deputy Chief whip Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, under matters of urgent public importance by the House of Representatives to mark the International Day for the elimination of violence against women.
In her lead debate the lawmaker explained that the action plan would reduce the menace as well as encourage victims to speak out.
She further expressed concern that the widespread of violence against women and girls is largely underreported due to the stigma associated with it.
The theme of this year’s celebration is; Orange the World: Fund, Respond, Prevent, Collect as part of measures to acknowledge the crucial role women play in the development of every society.
