Kogi State To Reposition Education Sector, Ensure Better Welfare For Teachers

Kogi State Government has been urged to give accelerated approval for recruitment of three thousand, teachers for secondary Schools across the State.

State Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, Comrade Ranti Ojo made the call at this year’s celebration of the World Teachers Day in Lokoja.

Comrade Ojo said the call became necessary in view of shortage of teachers through massive compulsory retirement by the Government .

He also called for urgent steps to be taken by Government in some Local Government areas where flood submerged schools and made teaching and learning impossible.

In a paper presentation at the occasion, the lead presenter, Joshua Olorunfemi who spoke on “The twenty one irrefutable laws of leadership” charged the State Executive Council of the Union to remain resolute in thier bid to provide better working conditions for members.

Speaking at the occasion, the State Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones said the State Government was addressing challenges in the education sector headlong by taking some proactive measures to revive the sector.

According to him, while attention is being given to recruitment of teachers, the issue of their welfare, capacity building and infrastructure were also being addressed.

He appealed to the teachers to continue to give thier best in imparting knowledge in students towards making the nation great.
