KOGI : Social Health Scheme To Commence

The Kogi State Executive Council has approved the Commencement of Social Health Insurance Scheme in the State.

The Implementation of the scheme will be in phases as arrangements have been concluded to start with civil servants and political office holders.

The decision was reached during the State Executive Council Meeting at the Government House, Lokoja.

Briefing Newsmen at the end of the meeting, Kogi State Commissioner for Health, Doctor Saka Haruna stated that Civil Servants would Contribute 3.5% of their basic salary as premium while Government would augment with 5% for seamless implementation and sustainability.

Doctor Saka explained that Government officials also agreed to raise their contribution by 80% to capture the less privileged in the State.

The Commissioner further said that the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund would also take off in the State.

The fund is to cater for the less privileged and indigent children under five, People Living With Disabilities and other vulnerable people.

According to Doctor Saka, 131 vulnerble persons would be selected per ward as Governor Bello kicks off enrollment next week.

In the meantime, Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Ashiru Idris says the Executive is to send the 2021 draft budget to the State House of Assembly next week for consideration.

Ashiru reiterated that
Government would put in place a mechanism to cushion the effects of COVID -19 which had affected the State negatively.

Also briefing Newsmen, Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo said Governor Bello assured citizens that he would continue to prioritize agriculture and rural roads to improve the plight of the rural populace.

He added that the present administration would also conduct a free and fair Local Government election to deepen democracy in the State .
