National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Chris Isiguzo has called on the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to regard journalists in the State as partners in progress.
The NUJ President who made the call at an event in Government House, Lokoja to honour Governor Bello on his stance against the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic stated that journalists were also responsible to the people for unbiased reportage of activities and programs of Government.
Chief Isiguzo lauded the Governor on some of his
developmental projects and programmes noting that the award by the Kogi State Government House Press Corps was an honour well deserved.
The NUJ National President made case for improved welfare of journalists in the State and appealed to Governor Bello to fulfill his promise of giving a facelift to the NUJ Press Centre, Lokoja in view of the historical significance of the building.
Speaking after receiving the award, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello lauded the people of Kogi State for believing in his position on the disease, stating that the consequences of the lockdown on the Country was affecting everyone.
The Governor who restated his resolve to continue to serve with honesty, sought the support of citizens pointing out that he would not derail on his commitment to peace, development and inclusive governance in the State.
Speaking with Journalists, Senior Special Assistant on Electronic Media to Governor Yahaya Bello, Mrs Barikisu Avoi Nwogu described as heroic the role of Governor Bello in allowing youths and women occupy strategic positions both at the State and local levels.
Mrs Nwogu who noted that women and youths had been relegated to the background in governance applauded the Governor’s fairness in appointments and projects as no part of the State was left behind.
The ceremony which is first of its kind, attracted dignitaries across the State, Top Government Officials and Media Executives.
