Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ Kogi State council has advised Kogi State Government to take urgent steps to repair dilapidated roads within Lokoja the State capital.
Some of the roads include Ganaja road, Zango Army barracks as well as Hassan Katsina roads.
In a Communique after its Congress held at the Press Centre, Lokoja, the Union said the call became necessary in view of accidents on the roads and hardship faced by citizens plying the road which serves as a major link to the Eastern part of the Country.
It called on the State Ministry of works and other relevant agencies to rehabilitate the roads to avoid further deterioration and loss of lives occasioned by the bad road.
While appealing to the Kogi State Government to extend a hand of fellowship to media organisations in the State like experienced with previous administrations, the Union urged Government to increase funding and provide utility vehicles to State owned media stations for effectiveness.
The Communique further called on the State Government to check the excesses of its revenue generating agencies including KOTRAMA and the State revenue services so as not to ensure prudent use of public funds.
It also announced that strict punitive measures would be taken against persons illegally parading themselves as Journalists as relevant security agencies had been alerted of invasion of the profession by fake journalists as well as persons parading themselves as media teams to political parties and some political office holders.
The congress congratulates Governor Yahaya Bello on his well deserved victory at the supreme court.
“The congress felicitates with Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello on his well-deserved election victory at the supreme court”, the Communique reads.
It also appreciates members of the Union for upholding ethics of Journalism and their support towards the success of the council despite the challenges faced by media practitioners in the State.
