The Federal Government has been urged to partner the Kogi State Government towards full utilisation of the Omi dam in Yagba West Local Government Area for agricultural purposes.
Deputy Commandant, National Institute for Security Studies, NISS, Abuja, Egbeji Didacus made the call when he led participants of the Executive Management Course Fourteen to some project sites initiated by the Kogi State Government.
Egbeji said the call became imperative in view of the vast potential of the Omi dam that needed to be harnessed for food security, irrigation and as potable water for people in the area and the environs.
Also at the Ejiba Rice Mill , the Deputy Commandant commended the efforts of the State Government and called for a robust partnership with relevant stakeholders to bring the Mill to use.
In a remark, the Executive Chairman, Yagba West Local Government, Chief Pius Kolawole appealed to Banks and other Corporate Organisations in the State to make soft loans available to farmers to enable them embark on dry season farming.
Chief Kolawole said the Rice Mill which was initiated by the State Government has reduced the rate of unemployment and youth restiveness in the area and promoted food sufficiency for the people.
Earlier the Course participants had visited some historical sites in Lokoja the State capital and paid courtesy calls on the Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi, the third as well as the Olomi of Omi, Oba Bolarin Ogungbemi.
