As the Mega Terminal in Lokoja, Kogi State begins operation, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN commuters and other transport stakeholders have been urged to cooperate with government to attain the objective of setting up the terminal.
Kogi State Commissioner for Transportation, Joseph Baron Okwoli made the call when he declared activities open at the terminal on behalf of the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
Mr Okwoli highlighted the aims of opening the park by the administration to include reducing incessant road carnages along the axis and curbing criminality due to influx and transit of people through the state capital.
The Commissioner appreciated members of the NURTW and other transport unions for their cooperation as he called for improved synergy to further ensure overall success.
According to Mr Okwoli, all commercial activities were guaranteed return on investment noting that government would also generate revenue from the terminal.
He therefore cautioned that a joint taskforce was in place to check indiscriminate trading, parking, picking and discharging of passengers along the Felele – Lokoja corridor.
Northern Branch Chairman of the NURTW, Alhaji Yusuf Muhammed Kolo and Kogi State Vice Chairman of the union, Alhaji Danladi Ibrahim applauded the state government for take off of the terminal promised cooperation of their members to achieve set objectives.
