Kogi Govt Urges Residents To Disregard Misinformation On Covid I9 Vaccines

The people of Kogi State have been urged to ignore the misinformation about the Covid 19 vaccination and avail themselves for the immunization.

The Chief Medical Director, Kogi State Teaching Hospital, Anyigba, Doctor Simon Akogu made the call in an interview with Radio Nigeria in Anyingba.

Doctor Akogu said misinformation propagated through the social media informed the decision of some people not to be vaccinated which he described as false and an attempt to discredit government efforts at getting people immunized.

According to him, the vaccine is safe with little or no side effects as it was produced in accordance to global health standard and certified by the World Health Organisation, WHO.

He commended the effort of the State Government and the State Primary Health Care Development Agency for making the vaccines available to the people.

Also speaking, the Provost, Kogi State College of Health Technology, Idah, Comrade Nuhu Anyegwu called on all stakeholders to intensify efforts on sensitization campaigns across the State to enable more people to get vaccinated.

Comrade Anyegwu who said the sensitization campaigns became necessary in view of the negative propaganda about the vaccine, urged the people to ignore it and get vaccinated.

He said the pandemic was a global issue hence the ongoing vaccination to prevent further spread of the virus.

In their separate responses, a lecturer with the State University, Anyigba, Ayo Daniel, a staff of the Nigerian Television Authority, Idah, Rotimi Meseko and a clergyman in Idaho, Paul Adeniyi said they were hesitant about taking the vaccine but assured of getting immunized if properly educated.

Some of the health workers on the field in the Eastern flank of the State who pleaded anonymity said the exercise had been going on hitch free with increase in turn out of the people.
