Kogi Govt Takes Measures To Mitigate Flooding

Kogi State Government has remobilized contractors back to site to commence work on the abandoned embankment of the marine road through the kpata market axis in Lokoja,the state capital.

The State Commissioner for works and Housing, Engineer Abubakar Ohere made this known during the flag off of the construction work in Lokoja.

He said the embankment was part of efforts of the state government in mitigating flooding in the area.

The comissioner said the state government was also putting necessary measures in place to explore effective urban planning,developmental control,dredging,construction of drainage channels and environmental education in order to reduce climate change induced challenges confronting the state.

According to him,government had also embarked on massive de-silting of drains,clearing of culverts with identification of black spots to alleviate any unforeseen circumstance.

He added that the project was fully funded by the state government and would be monitored steadily to completion.
