Kogi Govt Takes A Step To Uphold Girl Child Rights

Kogi State Government says it will commence training on basic hygiene in schools across the State to help the girl child.

Wife of Kogi State Governor, Mrs Rashida Bello made the promise at a program to mark this year’s International Day of the Girl Child with the theme “My Voice, Our Equal Future” held at Banquet Hall, Lokoja.

The Governor’s wife stated that the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello was committed to ensure girls in the State were completely educated and equipped with skills needed to advance their status for social interaction and self-improvement.

Mrs Rashida Bello who promised to supply sanitary pads to girls in the State , added that she would make the pad accessible through her office for girls to pick sanitary pad every month.

Also speaking, the secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folashade Ayoade Arike called for the stoppage of child-marriage, saying  that  it breeds a circle of poverty.

Mrs Ayoade Arike who noted that child -marriage  prevents the girl child from attaining her potential, urged all female children to work towards acquiring tertiary  education  as it will improve their living  condition.

In a remark, The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Fatima Buba commended wife of the governor
for taking positive steps to promote the welfare of the girl-child in the state.

Highlights of the occasion was
drama and cultural display, distributions of learning materials and sanitary pads.
